Children Living in the US
LVOH assists children and their families after they have been relocated to the United States by providing referral services for housing, education, food and immigration assistance.
At age 13, Varbah was relocated from a refugee camp in Ghana to Baltimore, Maryland. She had been placed with a foster family that did not allow her to attend school. Varbah had been looking forward to receiving abd education in her new home and was fortunate to have some school friends who helped her to find LVOH. In June, 1999, she called Ms. Oshoko and found a caring network of volunteers to help her make her dreams come true.
Ms. Oshoko invited Varbah into her home for the remainder of the summer and by fall had found her a new foster family in Minnesota. By fall 2000, Varbah had a home, a family, and was enrolled in school. Varbah became an honor roll student and graduated from High School in June 2003. She is now attending college.
