The Liberian Civil War has been rated as one of the most deadly and devastating wars ever fought in Africa. Its wrath demoralized the Liberian people, especially their children. During her visit in 1999 to Liberia, Ms. Edna Oshoko witnessed thousands of orphaned children left in the ruins of awar that had claimed the lives of more than 150,000 people. Ms. Oshoko found the members of her home community without medical care, education for their children and hundreds of people suffereing from malnutrition and hunger.
